yourself. >> i figure today's my last day here on the morning show i wanted to give you a sunny day. >> not the last day with the company. >> no, going back to consumer. why not give you one last day of sunshine. it may not be a beach day. we're dropping 5 to 15 degrees depending where you are. you can see temperatures here in san francisco, mid-60s. 64 san francisco, 69 oakland, 72 concord. breezy if not windy conditions, as well. we'll talk more about that coming up. but first, a look at the roads. elizabeth. >> we have a lot of roadwork out there this morning. a lot of bridges and several spots in the south bay. there are flashing lights, there's a ramp closure in san jose. southbound 280 ramp to northbound 880 closed for another half hour or so until 5:00. also, if you are coming southbound 101 through san jose approaching vernal road three right lanes closed for a half

hour. more road wore on bay bridge, dumbarton. back to you. >> thank you. developing story this morning in antioch. an eyewitness account of bullets nearly hitting a child in a home. we are waiting for details on antioch police but the child's mother says she was inside her apartment on sycamore drive last night when three bullets came through the window from an adjacent building. two reportedly hit a wall just above a child's bunk bed. the child had just left the room minutes earlier. >> i thought this place was safe. i feel insecure. this is my child's room. how could there be a gunshot through a child's room? maybe in my room but not in my son's room. i'm scared and i don't want to live here anymore. >> the mother says when those

shots were fired her son was eating dinner in another room. she says she first thought the sound was from fireworks but when she saw broken glass she went to tell police already in the area. we have a reporter on the way to the scene. we'll have a live reporter later on in our newscast. and this morning, the faa ordering mandatory inspections of boeing jets worldwide because of the hole in the roof of that southwest flight jet. kiet do is in san jose where flights are getting back to normal. >> reporter: good morning. southwest says it already knew about the faa's dramatic steps and forcing all these emergency inspections and so they say that the testing done since last friday will very likely satisfy the faa's requirement. the focuses of these overlapping pieces of aluminum riveted together. some older 737s will have to undergo testing for hidden metal fatigue. the inspections are because of the five-foot-long hole that opened up in a southwest plane

last friday. about 175 aircraft worldwide are involved. 80 are registered in the u.s. and southwest owns the majority of them. southwest takes off and lands more often than other aircraft. >> every time you take off, you blow up the airplane when you pressurize it. when you land, you relax it. then you take off, blow it up, reaction it. that's putting that wrinkling effect on that aluminum. >> reporter: and southwest says again that they are confident that the inspections that they did since last friday pretty much have satisfied all the faa's requirements. they are looking forward to a full schedule with minimum cancellations and delays. >> certainly good news for travelers. thank you, kiet do in san jose this morning. this morning, muni is admitting to a safety violation after a train was caught on tape going full speed with the door open.

the amateur video posted on youtube shows a packed muni train during the friday's rush hour. the door as you can see wide open with passengers standing just inches away. the train travels from van ness to church. the passenger who took the video says he wanted to document the dangerous situation. >> doesn't make me mad. just makes we want to go like, hello, san francisco? like san francisco muni does not care about your safety at all and they're rude to you. they don't care about you and you're going to get hurt one of thieves days because of their carelessness. >> obviously this was a serious incident. we're very thankful that no one was hurt. obviously, it's unacceptable. >> the director of transit operations says the train operator was having trouble with the door and overrode a safety feature to keep the train running but he could have used a pin to make sure that door stayed closed while the train was running. tonight san bruno residents can weigh in on rule changes

for natural gas pipeline the state public utilities commission is holding a five- hour hearing at the san bruno senior center. they are considering regulations to avoid a repeat of the deadly explosion like san bruno last year. they are planning to make automatic shutoff valves mandatory. a teenager suspected of raping a person in san francisco is in police custody. hours after police released this sketch, officers arrested an 18-year-old. he is accused of grabbing a woman from behind in crocker amazon park friday afternoon and raping her. he faces kidnap and rape charges. the barry bonds trial resumes today. yesterday, a sick juror put everything on hold and a previously lost audiotape surfaced that could damage the defense. prosecutors say you can hear bonds' doctor discussing the slugger's alleged steroid use

with bonds' former personal assistant. the doctor said he never discussed steroids but the judge list to the end steroid yesterday and said he -- listened to the steroid yesterday and could barely hear what the doctor said. the reward is up to $50,000 now to find the dodger fans who brutally beat up a giants fans last week. the man is still in a medically- induced coma after last thursday night's attack in a parking lot in dodger stadium. police say he was attacked by fans. they believe the attackers may have fled in a car with a 10- year-old inside and a woman driving. the men who attacked him were wearing dodgers gear they believe to be between the ages of 18 and 25. here are sketches of those two men. friends of brian stowe are planning fundraisers for

medical bills. pizza my heart restaurants are donating parts of proceeds from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. if customers mention stow and tomorrow his colleagues at american medical response will host a barbecue at company offices. that's from noon until 8:00 at 16th las plumas avenue in san jose. if the 49ers move into a new stadium in santa clara, what will it be called? which company will get naming lights? tonight the mayor and city council of santa clara expected to approve a plan to enter into a naming rights marketing agreement with the 49ers. they hope money from naming rights will help fund construction of a stadium. the mayor says he has already been talking to local ceos about that opportunity. >> certainly a lot of good companies down there, facebook bowl, whatever it may end up being. and weather-wise, boy, i got to tell you, julie's last day on the morning show going out like a king here.

>> what can i say? look, i have to say i'm bringing temperatures down significantly so for all you folks on baker beach yesterday afternoon sunbathing probably going to be too cool. here's why. we still have high pressure in place meaning mostly sunny skies today a few more clouds than yesterday but the ridge is going to flat out and we'll see breezy conditions at the coast, winds up to 30 miles per hour so it will be cooler. not as cool, however as we are going to see wednesday and thursday as this cold air mass moves in. in the meantime, temperatures do stay mild for the morning. upper 40s and 50s. 49 this morning in pacifica. as we move on throughout the day, however, you will notice some significant cooling in some locations. in fact, some spots dropping as much as 15 degrees over yesterday but yesterday was pretty warm. 61 pacifica, 68 san jose, 72 napa, 72 concord, 69 in oakland

today. 70 for folks in livermore. this is just the beginning of a cooldown that's heading our way. we're dropping into the 50s by thursday with a chance of rain. can't rule out an isolated snowflake or on two two on some local mountains. we'll talk more about your extended forecast coming up. first a check of traffic with elizabeth. >> all we have going on right now is a lot of roadwork. in fact, a lot more roadwork than we're used to seeing. the good news is most of it wraps up by 5:00. if it's still out there it will wrap up shortly. here's live look at 880 near 66. southbound 880 between embarcadero and fruitvale various lanes blocked until 5 a.m. oakland westbound 580 at park boulevard sounds like the park boulevard on-ramp to westbound 580 shut down completely for another half hour or less. the dumbarton bridge i mentioned some roadwork on the dumbarton bridge. this is ongoing roadwork. today it is only in the eastbound lanes.

eastbound 84 as you come up on the high-rise of the bridge, various lanes blocked until you guessed it 5:00 this morning. and at the bay bridge, various lanes blocked as well on the upper deck heading into san francisco on the incline section of the bridge. not causing any delay though and you can see traffic is moving fine right now as you approach the toll plaza. back to you guys. >> thank you. san francisco pulling out the stops to keep at which time they are in town. is it worth the cost? >> big developments in the jaycee dugard kidnapping case. how accused kidnapper phillip garrido's plea could help his wife's case. do clothes make the man? labels matter when it comes to getting ahead in life, according to a new study. coming up.

guilty this week to the kidnapping according to his wife's attorney. garrido is expected to enter the guilty plea on thursday. lawyers say he hopes to win mercy for his wife but is also looking out for the woman he is accused of kidnapping and raping. >> he doesn't want to nor does nancy want to put jaycee through this stuff. also, he is in love with nancy and wants to testify at her trial if that happens. >> nancy's attorney says she will likely go to trial no matter what happens. the garridos are accused of kidnapping jaycee dugard in 1991 and holding her captive for 18 years. governor brown has signed a bill that shifts responsibility for thousands of criminals to local governments. brown sought the measure to cut into the state's budget deficit and to ease prison overcrowding and promote rehabilitation but some law enforcement officials object saying there is no money for them to comply with that

new law. today president obama meeting with top lawmakers as both sides work to avoid a partial shutdown of the federal government. the short-term spending bill passed last month runs out friday. republicans and democrats working toward a compromise but each wants the other to make concessions as they look ahead to an even bigger battle over next year's budget. twitter could find out today if it will get a tax break to keep its offices in san francisco. the board of supervisors is expected to consider a tax break for the microblogging company and other businesses that move to the midmarket or tenderloin neighborhoods. the plan is to exempt payroll taxes for new employees for six years. opponents are concerned that the tax break would cost the city millions of dollars. when you look at clothes toby, does the label matter to you? >> not really. >> snow. >> but it turns out designer clothes might do more than just make you feel good i guess. a new study shows designer logos have their benefits like

astronauts blasted off for the international space station this morning. the two russians re onboard the and liftoff! >> three astronauts blastinged off for the international space station this morning. the two russians and one american on board. the soyuz rocket comes nearly 50 years after russia's cosmonaut became the first man in space. the astronauts will spend six months in space with several others aboard the international space station. radiation in sea water near japan's crippled nuclear power plant is reportedly 7.5 million times the legal limit. the plant has been pouring radiation into the ocean since last month's earthquake and tsunami. for the first time since the disaster japan is setting the

standard for amount of radiation in fish because of elevated levels of radioactive iodine. west virginia governors planning to join with families of workers who died in a massive explosion at the upper big branch coal mine a year ago. massie energy company is halting operation for the day at mines in west virginia, virginia and kentucky. the cause of last year's explosion is still under investigation. the glow of lightning and an apparent electrical transformer explosion lighting up the downtown atlanta sky overnight. take a look. this is severe weather moving across georgia. witnesses reported intense rain and powerful winds as the storm started coming through last night. >> well, we are off to a mild start this morning but temperatures are definitely going to drop as we move throughout the day today. heading out the door, temperatures anywhere from the upper 40s at the coast, 50s inland and the bay mostly clear

with patchy fog at the coast to start the day. later on mix of sun and clouds but temperatures definitely not as warm dropping anywhere from 5 to 15 degrees today. highs ranging from 58 in the coolest spots along the coast to low 70s inland. and you will notice a breeze downright windy in some spots along the coast and by the bay today. taking a look at the temperatures as we move on throughout the day you will notice that they are cooler depending where you are in the area. along the coast we'll cool down more significantly than folks inland. satellite perspective shows pretty much a delineation right here between what's left of that warmer air mass, that ridge of high pressure, and the cool air off to our northwest. this will move in over the coming days continuing to bring temperatures down. this is just the beginning of a cooldown that will significantly drop those temperatures over the next few days. we'll talk about that coming up. but in the meantime, we have a check of traffic coming up and i want to talk a little bit more about this. so as you can see cool air moving in and this is going to drop temperatures even more so

for tomorrow. and then thursday, we see a chance of showers along with this system. the air mass so cool we might even see a few snowflakes on some of our local mountains. checking in with the temperatures areawide, 61 in half moon bay, that is a significant drop from yesterday. but again, the farther you move inland, the less of a drop you're going to see. 69 milpitas, 71 today in san jose. inland temperatures in the low 70s for pleasant hill, walnut creek. 73 brentwood. these temperatures really only down by about 5 degrees or so. again, closer to the bay, we will see a little more significant drop. 56 in alameda, 68 in berkeley today. and north bay temperatures you'll see anything from, say, 71 sonoma, 72 napa to cooler temperatures in the upper 50s near stinson beach and impressive wind speeds up to 30 miles per hour at the coast today. here's the seven-day forecast. pretty obvious we're cooling down. low 70s today for the warmest

spots. upper 60s by wednesday. we're not getting out of 50s on thursday and chance of showers, isolated snowflake, we may see lingering showers friday morning, could see frost on the windshield inland. and then as we head on into the weekend we start to rebound. temperatures, next chance of showers comes next sunday. now for a check of traffic, here's elizabeth. >> thank you. live towards the south bay we have a photographer today near the alum rock exit in san jose. headlights moving northbound towards santa clara. and it is a pretty easy ride. still have some ongoing roadwork in the southbound lanes of 101 approaching bernal. again, should be wrapping up very shortly. was scheduled to wrap up by 5. it could be gone by now anyway. at the bay bridge toll plaza, very quiet this morning. if you are heading towards the incline on the upper deck of the bridge, again, various lanes blocked this morning

until 5:00. not causing big delays. antioch bridge like clockwork it looks great very light right now and looks good through antioch, no yellow on your sensors yet through a street towards somersville. give it another hour or so on the that will all change. same thing out of the altamont pass. from 205 to 680 looks great, 13 minutes from altamont pass to the dublin interchange. you can see very little slowing anywhere right now across the bay area. san mateo bridge is fine. i mentioned earlier roadwork on the dumbarton bridge. that should be wrapped up. the san mateo bridge looks great right now in the commute direction of westbound 92. of course if anything changes, remember kcbs, our radio partners, at 740-am and 106.9- fm. back to you. >> thank you. there is concern this morning about the growing amount of radiation kids are exposed to at the hospital. a new report shows the number of children getting "ct" scans skyrocketed in the past decade.

what's driving the increase? one possibility, improvements in ct technology that produce clearer images quickly. the report is in the journal radiology. and people who routinely work 11 hours or more a day increase their chances of developing heart disease by 67%. doctors say it exposes the employees to more stress. the study took into account other risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and smoking but didn't say anything about sleep. >> don't you love it when we give you this inspiring information this early in the morning? [ laughter ] here's one inspiring story. a stranger saved one man's life in michigan because of facebook. one man needed a kidney transplant but he had to wait three to five years. feeling hopeless his wife made a plea on facebook and within hours a total stranger responded. >> i knew i was a type o from some tests in his my youth and

that was what even got me to even think that i could be somebody who could do it. >> the surgery went just fine. doctors say there are more than 100,000 people in the united states in need of a kidney transplant. the university of connecticut is the new national champion of men's basketball. >> yeah. i watched all of it, too. that's why a little tired. the huskies beat butler at houston last night 53-41. it was not a scoring bonanza. kemba walker led connecticut. he had 16 points. the huskies defense held the bulldogs to 18.8 percentage of shooting, pathetic. the connecticut coach jim calhoun has now won three national titles something only four other coaches have ever done. >> it was two teams that weren't going to give in to each other and finally our superiority took over but damn, i -- i -- i loved it in the sense of the fact that the fight and the competitiveness
